Valentine's Day loves chocolate

As much as beer loves you. <3

That's right, folks! It's February 13th. The day before Valentine's Day. And what would Valentine's Day be without a little chocolate - and beer? A sad Wednesday.

We know you don't need a romantic holiday like Valentine's Day to enjoy chocolate with your beer. But with over 58 million pounds of chocolate candy purchased during the week of Valentine's Day and 36 million chocolate heart boxes being sold*, we figured you might have a little extra chocolate on your hands and in your pantry.

While Americans spend over 8.6 million dollars on sparkling wine* for the most romantic day of the year, high quality craft beer can make for the perfect chocolate-pairing beverage if you're armed with a little know-how.

Generally speaking, you want to match the richness and flavor of the beer with your chocolates. The best way to do this is to start with high quality craft beer and premium (handmade by a chocolatier if possible) chocolate. Serving both the chocolate and beer at their proper temperatures, pair darker chocolates with darker beers and lighter chocolates with paler ales. Additionally, consider whether the chocolate has fruit, nut or caramel flavors and pair with beers that have similar or contrasting notes for a different experience.

Regardless of which chocolate - beer combo best tickles your fancy, the only thing that really matters is that you are enjoying the tasting and the time with your company!

The below beginner's guide to pairing chocolate and craft brews can help you get started.
